200 000 deliveries and 400 000 transactions every day and one single mistake in 16 million deliveries!
Meet the Dabbawallahs (in free translation, one who carries the box, in English - the lunch box delivery man), the little entrepreneurs who feed the city of Mumbai at lunchtime, every day.

They are famous all over India and in the wide world, Prince Charles asked them for his service and they became “the wonder of Mumbai”, the place where you can see them riding their bikes or on the train, before lunchtime every day (it`s a100% eco service, no delivery is made by car) carrying the cooked meals from a housewife`s home or from a restaurant, to their customers`workplaces, then returning the boxes and the containers responsibly. 

The mechanism - so complicated and so incredibly efficient - was invented about 125 years ago and is applied according to the the same rules nowadays, too.. The boxes are marked with some codes: abbreviations showing collection points, with a color code showing the place to start, with a number for the destination station and other letters and numbers for the place to get the box, the buliding and floor.

Movies, documentaries or complicated surveys on efficiency at the most prestigious universities in the world were made, not a few times, on Dabbawallahs, who are very proud of their status and the privilege of handing down a tradition which became a legend.
In Mumbai, there are approximately 5.000 dabbawallahs who deliver 200000 lunch boxes of delicious food, every day, without making any mistakes.

“We are Dabbawala(one who carries the box) in the Indian city of Mumbai.
We carry and deliver freshly made food from the customer`s home in a lunch box(Dabba) and deliver it to offices.
It may sound simple but it`s not.
It`s actually a highly specialized trade which has evolved in its current form, for over a century and became integral to Mumbai`s culture.”
